Toyos Foundation Non Profit announces a Eye Glasses Initiative – For every pair sold one pair will go to someone in need

Drs. Rolando and Melissa Toyos have been providing free care to community and abroad on Mission Trips.   Over the years, Toyos Clinic has participated in medical missions to Nicaragua, Honduras, and Haiti.  They have provided free care locally by participating in the Eye Care America Project established by the American Academy of Ophthalmology.  This year to serve the community in a better way they established the Toyos Foundation,  a 501c3 Non-Profit,  with the mission to provide uninsured patients with free care, support other impactful nonprofits, educate, and fund their medical mission trips.   This year the foundation has already donated money to The Wounded Warriors Foundation, St. Jude, Alpha Omega Veterans Services, Eric and Jessie Decker Foundation, Houston High School, Houston Middle School, Germantown High School, Desoto Cardinals, SW Special Care, Leukemia Lymphoma Society of Middle Tennessee, and Predators Foundation.   The clinic has provided free care and surgery for several uninsured and underinsured patients including a woman from Germany who was suffering from severe dry eye disease and needed procedures and intervention provided only at Toyos Clinic.

The Toyos Clinic focuses on the ophthalmology needs of our local communities by proudly accepting Tenncare, Medicare, and Medicaid.  We are always ready to step up in a crisis.  Dr. Toyos won the Jazz Foundation Humanitarian Award for the clinic’s free care delivered to the 10,000 evacuees that came to Memphis after Hurricane Katrina.  We want to continue to provide whatever resources are needed locally and globally.  We also believe in educating the future leaders of tomorrow.  We currently fund a medical student to spend a summer working and completely research at Toyos Clinic.  We plan on creating a scholarship for a high school senior to use for college.  As always the health care professionals in our clinic will make themselves available for speaking engagements at local schools.

We are excited about our new Glasses Initiative to provide eyewear to those in need both locally and globally.  It is estimated that one billion people worldwide lasck access to glasses.  Each time you donate a pair of gently used glasses, the Toyos Foundation will donate those frames to patients in need. Bring your gently used frames to one of our six Tennessee clinic locations and receive 15% off of your next glasses purchase. By recycling these frames you are not only helping the less fortunate you are closing the gap to 20/20 healthy vision for many in need.  We are also giving one pair of glasses to the Foundation for every pair of glasses bought in our clinic.  All of these eyeglasses will be donated to the uninsured or to people in need during our Medical Mission Trips.  (The glasses will be given free of charge unlike some non-profits like Vision Spring, a partner of Warby Parker, that charges patients for glasses.)

Currently we are funding the Toyos Foundation through events, purchases of certain products, and sales.  For example, Dr. Toyos has written a book, The Life and Times of a Sports Ophthalmologist, with all proceeds going to the foundation.  We will have events where the sales of the exclusive eyewear will go to the foundation.  Every year we donate some WaveLight Lasik or Mixto Laser Lift proceeds to the cause.  We do accept donations as well.  We have a long tradition of giving back and now with the help of the Toyos Foundation we can provide more to our local communities and globally.
